2014 Can of Corn Clash Tournament Wrap Up

What does a can of corn have to do with baseball? Here in Delaware, we get our corn from the fields and eat pulled straight from the husk. None of that packaged corn nonsense!

According to Google, the term “can of corn” signifies a pop fly that is easy to catch. This term dates back to the 1900s when grocers would have to catch cans from high shelves when they needed them.

This weekend we hosted our 2014 Can of Corn Clash with 102 teams in seven age brackets. In addition to the sixteen fields on our complex, we utilized six offsite fields at the Georgetown Little League complex down the road. Over the first two days of pool play, you couldn’t ask for better weather. Despite it being July, Mother Nature provided us with relatively cool temperatures. Unfortunately, we can’t always have the luck. On Sunday morning, it rained a bit and the off-site fields took on quite a bit of water and caused a delay. But moms have bleach and they boys got a little muddy and played hard.
