Summer Classic Opening Ceremonies
Let the fun begin!!! Sports at the Beach kicks off the Summer Classic tournament when all teams competing in the Summer Classic are introduced and parade around the field in uniform. Parents, friends, and family get a chance to recognize their players who will be representing their town during the tournament. Many teams have customized banners to show their team name and all players, that they carry for the Opening Ceremony. Once all teams are introduced and lined up in the outfield, teams will get ready for the Skills Competition.
Skills Competition
The moment everyone has been waiting for, a time to determine who is the best of the best when it comes to skills!! The competition involves 4 different events, Golden Gun, Roadrunner, King of Pop, and Around the Diamond. Below are detailed descriptions of how each event works:
Golden Gun
Two players are involved for the Golden Gun, a Thrower and a Catcher. The Thrower gets 3 throws from 125 feet to home plate. Each throw will receive points based on accuracy. Top 3 from preliminary round will throw off for Championship.
Roadrunner
One player from each team will run the bases for the fastest time. (A missed base will result in disqualification) Top 3 from preliminary round will run for Championship.
Fastest Mom
One mom from each team will run the bases for the fastest time. (A missed base will result in disqualification) Top 3 from preliminary round will run for Championship.
Fastest Coach
One coach from each team will run the bases for the fastest time. (A missed base will result in disqualification) Top 3 from preliminary round will run for Championship.
King of Pop
One player from each team will get 5 swings from their coach. Most home runs or farthest hits will qualify for the Championship Round. Top 3 from preliminary round will hit off for championship.
Around the Diamond
Play starts when PITCHER throws to CATCHER. CATCHER throws to 3rd BASEMAN. 3rd BASEMAN throws to 2nd BASEMAN. 2nd BASEMAN throws to 1st BASEMAN. 1ST BASEMAN throws to CATCHER. CATCHER throws to SHORTSTOP. SHORTSTOP throws to RIGHTFIELDER. RIGHTFIELDER throws to CENTERFIELDER. CENTERFIELDER throws to LEFTFIELDER. LEFTFIELDER throws to CATCHER. The time starts when CATCHER touches Home plate and ends when CATCHER touches home plate. All players receiving throws must touch the appropriate base (including Short Stop). A 5 second penalty will occur from any missed bases. The top 2 teams from preliminary round face off for Championship. Winners of each event will be given and individual trophy. For Around the Diamond, the team will receive one team trophy, as well as individual trophies for each player.
